2 Florida State players suspended, arrested after bar incident

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -Two Florida State football players were suspended Friday after they were arrested for an incident at a bar.

Junior linebacker Geno Hayes and senior fullback Joe Surratt were arrested early Friday, school officials said. Tallahassee police have not released details but said the department would have information later Friday.

"The student-athletes have been suspended per our athletics department student-athlete code of conduct policy, until all of the facts of the incident are reviewed," Florida State athletic director Dave Hart said in a statement.

Hayes is the team's second-leading tackler with 19, and Surratt led Florida State with six rushing touchdowns last year but is sidelined with a broken leg.

Ahh it'll be alright, FSU is off this weekend so by next weekend everything will be straight. Geno will play against 'Bama, if it was someone else they would get a one game suspension.

Florida State football head coach Bobby Bowden announced late Tuesday disciplinary measures taken involving junior linebacker Geno Hayes, in accordance with the FSU Athletics Student-Athlete Code of Conduct/Discipline Policy. Hayes was issued misdemeanor charges in an incident on September 21st, an offense in which punishment, as stated in the Discipline Policy, is handled by the head coach, after review by the Director of Athletics, and is largely based on past deportment of the student-athlete involved.

After reviewing the circumstances of the incident, Bowden has demoted Hayes to second team and he will not start Saturday's game vs. Alabama. Hayes will also attend behavioral counseling and perform community service in addition to other internal coach's disciplinary actions.

"I want to apologize to my family, coaches, teammates, fans and Florida State University for the incident that took place last week," Hayes said. "I have always taken pride in representing myself and this university in a positive manner and unfortunately, I did not live up to those standards on this occasion. I realize I can not make another mistake of this or any other nature."

The status of injured senior fullback Joe Surratt, who was issued a felony charge in the same incident, will be determined as the situation moves through the legal process. Per the FSU Athletics Student-Athlete Code of Conduct/Discipline Policy, a student-athlete can not compete when charged with a felony.

heck.. personally im kinda glad.. i wish that FSU would get back to the thug persona they had for awhile.. thats when we had a good team.. Bobby needs to take them boys to the mall and turn them loose in foot locker for about 10 minutes to get some new shoes..
